Richard Gao has been focusing on M&A and foreign direct investment for over fifteen years. He has been advising clients in the PRC direct investment and outbound investment in various sectors, including food and beverage, hotel, automotive, and chemicals.

- Advised a China SOE mining company in acquisition of mining business in Australia and Europe.
- Advised a China SOE hotel group in the acquisition of hotel business in US and EU and in the subsequent business integration.
- Advised a leading global steel manufacturer in its billion dollars investment in China new energy sector, including site selection and setup of joint venture.
- Advised a leading global pharmaceutical company in the spin off and separate listing of one business unit.
- Advised a US multinational company in spin-off of its automotive business, including restructuring over 30 PRC manufacturing joint venture companies.
- Advised a leading global food company in forming food additive joint venture with its Chinese partner.
- Advised an European client investing in China and establishing joint ventures with large state-owned automobile companies.
- Advised a European toy company in billions RMB green field project for its Asia manufacturing base, representing the client in site selection, government negotiation, land bidding etc.
- Advised a European chemical company on the spin-off of its chemical plant in China in the form of a demerger and subsequent sale of separated business.
